Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit ethnic violence-affected Manipur in the first week of October. According to the chief minister's office, he will lay the foundation stone for the Senapati Medical College and review other development projects during the visit.

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met Shah in New Delhi on Wednesday and discussed various issues. The meeting comes as Meitei and Naga organisations are pushing for the implementation of the National Register of Citizens before the state's census and delimitation exercises. Violence affecting Naga and Kuki communities has been occurring intermittently, and a group of Manipur legislators had earlier travelled to Delhi to raise the NRC demand with central leaders.
