Arunachal police rescue 19 trafficked children, arrest three women
Arunachal Pradesh Police rescued 19 children, most under eight, from a trafficking network and arrested three women accused of acting as brokers. Authorities suspect payments of Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 per child in some cases.
Arunachal Pradesh Police said they have dismantled a child trafficking network, rescuing 19 children, most of them younger than eight years old. Three women—Gumnya Kochung, Marta Ete, and Neha Gerory—were arrested for their alleged roles as facilitators or brokers.
The children were rescued from several locations across the state, including Mechuka, Aalo, Pasighat, Naharlagun, Itanagar, and Longding. The operation followed an investigation into a suspected child trafficking and exploitation network.
According to police, the case was registered on August 17 at Namsai police station after a complaint from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Namsai. Given the case's seriousness and inter-district nature, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted.
Police said their investigation revealed suspected monetary consideration ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 per child in certain cases. Further details about the rescued children or the accused were not immediately available.
