After striking cab drivers halted traffic in Bhopal, the Madhya Pradesh government accepted key demands and imposed a rule allowing only commercial-registered vehicles to carry paying passengers. Private cars and two-wheelers face fines, impoundment, and legal action.
In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, the state government has introduced a strict enforcement rule: only vehicles registered for commercial use may carry paying passengers. The move came a day after the government accepted key demands from striking cab drivers, ending a protest that had paralysed commuters in the city.
Under the new directive, private cars and two-wheelers operating as taxis are barred from plying for hire. Vehicles found violating the rule face fines, impoundment, and legal action. The enforcement drive took effect on Thursday itself.
Officials estimate that about 700 four-wheelers and 1,000 two-wheelers will be taken off public roads in the city as a result of the restriction.
