The CBI widened its crackdown on digital arrest fraud rings, conducting searches at 89 locations across 20 states and arresting three accused in connection with scams that coerced victims into transferring crores of rupees. The operation, run under Supreme Court oversight, focuses on tracing the movement of defrauded funds.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has expanded its offensive against digital arrest fraud rings under an operation dubbed Chakra-VI. The latest exercise targeted three major cases in which victims were falsely told they were under police custody during video calls and were coerced into transferring crores of rupees. Three accused have been arrested so far. Search operations were carried out at 89 locations across 20 states. The agency said its probe was based on detailed scrutiny of bank records and digital account-access trails, aiming to trace how the proceeds of crime moved and who ultimately benefited. Among those arrested is an accused identified as Akash from Haryana, who allegedly received ₹1.95 crore of the defrauded funds into an account he had opened. The Supreme Court continues to monitor the CBI's actions in connection with these cases.
