The state-appointed high-level committee on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Chhattisgarh is set to hold a comprehensive state-level consultation meeting in Raipur on August 27. Around 200 key representatives and stakeholders from various sections of society are expected to participate. Invitations have been extended to office-bearers from government commissions, public corporations and boards, community leaders, heads of social organisations, public representatives, legal luminaries, domain experts and distinguished citizens. The government has described the move as a step toward drafting and implementing a UCC in the state. The consultation is intended to gather ground-level inputs from a broad cross-section of society, given the sensitive and significant nature of the subject.
