According to officials in Imphal, unknown miscreants set fire to a house in Taphou Kuki village in the Kuki-dominated Kangpokpi district in the early hours. Soon after, another house was torched in Taphou Naga village in the adjoining Naga-dominated Senapati district.
The two groups exchanged fire after 9 a.m., and the CRPF sub-inspector was caught in the crossfire and shot. He was admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
Following the violence, locals in Senapati district blocked National Highway-2, also known as the Imphal-Dimapur Road, for a few hours. Security forces have been deployed in the area, though further details are not yet available.
