The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister unveiled Master Plan of Delhi 2047, a long-term blueprint allowing taller buildings and 40 lakh new homes for a projected 3.2 crore population, with restrictions in select heritage zones.

The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Manohar Lal, unveiled the Master Plan of Delhi (MPD) 2047, the new development blueprint for the national capital. The plan replaces the previous Master Plan of Delhi, which lapsed in 2021. MPD 2047 focuses on providing 40 lakh new residential units, with affordable housing as a core priority, to meet the needs of a projected population of 3.2 crore by 2047. The revised plan permits greater vertical expansion and introduces changes to floor area ratio (FAR) and other building controls. Height restrictions are removed across most parts of the city but remain in certain areas, including the Lutyens’ Bungalow Zone, the Civil Lines Bungalow Area, and Connaught Place.
