Delhi has planted 50 lakh saplings so far under the 'Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam' campaign, against a target of 70 lakh, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said Thursday. Over 1.8 lakh people registered, with around 3.4 lakh trees planted through citizen participation.
New Delhi: The Delhi government's 'Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam' plantation drive has achieved 50 lakh saplings planted so far, against a target of 70 lakh, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said on Thursday.
The minister said the campaign portal has allowed citizens and Resident Welfare Associations to register and participate in plantation activities. At least 1.8 lakh people have registered, with approximately 1.5 lakh participating and planting around 3.4 lakh trees.
Thirteen 'vriksh raths' (tree chariots) have been deployed to take the campaign directly to neighbourhoods, connecting more than 58,000 people. Over six lakh saplings have been distributed free of cost, according to Sirsa.
