Delhi police uncovered a nationwide network that sold counterfeit and stolen cancer medicines at steep discounts through online marketplaces and WhatsApp, exploiting the financial desperation of patients' families.
Delhi police have busted a nationwide racket allegedly involved in selling stolen and counterfeit cancer drugs at heavily discounted prices. Investigators said medicines worth lakhs of rupees were sold at 60–70% discounts. In one instance, a cancer drug normally priced at about Rs 2 lakh per vial was allegedly sold for Rs 70,000–75,000. The gang reportedly advertised the drugs on business-to-business online marketplaces and promoted them through WhatsApp statuses and other informal channels to reach potential buyers. According to police, their search for customers extended across the country. The racket preyed on the financial strain faced by families undergoing cancer treatment.
