The Election Commission has announced a revamped outreach targeting Gen Alpha and Gen Z, including plans to set up 50,000 Electoral Literacy Clubs across India ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

The Election Commission (EC) has stepped up efforts to engage younger voters ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, aiming to make them aware of the electoral process and capable of leading future voter education campaigns.
The poll authority plans to target school students in classes 9 to 12, as well as colleges and universities, across all 4,123 Assembly constituencies in India.
EC officials said there are currently 14.78 crore people in the 18-26 age group, including 7.98 crore males, 6.79 crore females, and 9,000 third-gender individuals.
As part of the initiative, the EC intends to establish 50,000 Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs), with 10 clubs per Assembly constituency. The move is designed to familiarise young people with voting procedures and encourage them to become informed participants in democracy.
