A court in Rohtak, Haryana, on Wednesday convicted former Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLA Balbir Singh, also known as Bali Pehalwan, and six others in connection with the 2011 murder of Vishnu at the Kalanaur grain market. Additional District and Sessions Judge Kapil Rathi delivered the verdict in the 15-year-old case. Arguments on the quantum of sentence will be heard on Thursday.

Vishnu, a resident of Nigana village, was shot dead on May 6, 2011, during a clash between two groups at the grain market. Several other people were injured in the incident. The police registered a case at Kalanaur police station based on a complaint by Vishnu's brother-in-law, Sitaram Rathi. The complaint named 18 people and invoked charges including murder, attempt to murder, rioting, criminal conspiracy, and provisions of the Arms Act. The court has convicted the former MLA and six others, while the case continues to be processed for sentencing.
