Unknown gunmen ambushed a group of Naga villagers in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Thursday, killing four people and leaving one missing. A Naga organisation called for a shutdown in Senapati district in protest.

Four persons from the Naga community were killed and one was reported missing after an ambush in Manipur on Thursday. The attack occurred at around 8:30 am between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga villages in the Kuki-majority Kangpokpi district. The victims were travelling from Makui village to Senapati, a Naga-majority district bordering Nagaland.
The deceased were identified as Tadsongbou Ringkangmai, Mariakdibou Wijunamai, Anil Wijunamai and Wisobou Charenamai. One injured person, Gaikamang Ringkangmai, was reported. Japou MK was listed as missing.
Following the killing, a Naga organisation called for the closure of shops and other establishments in Senapati in protest. The situation in the area remained tense.
