Government panel clears privatisation of 11 airports
The Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee has given in-principle approval to privatise 11 airports in five bundles, moving the proposal toward Cabinet consideration.
The government's Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC) has granted in-principle approval to the Ministry of Civil Aviation's proposal for the third round of airport privatisation, covering 11 airports grouped into five bundles, according to a government document.
The proposal will now proceed to secure the PPPAC's final approval, after which it will be placed before the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) for consideration.
The airports identified for privatisation include Amritsar and Kangra; Varanasi, Gaya and Kushinagar; Bhubaneswar and Hubballi; Raipur and Aurangabad; and Tiruchirappalli and Tirupati.
The move comes amid concerns about potential risks of oligopolistic concentration and excessive leverage in the airport sector.
