Haryana CM says extortion cases rose 17% amid overseas calls

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said in the state Assembly that extortion cases in the state rose by 17%, attributing the increase to anonymous overseas callers who use digital applications to conceal their identity and location. He said 296 extortion incidents were reported up to July 2026, compared with 253 in the corresponding period a year earlier. Saini added that police arrested 3,210 gang members during 2024, 2025, and up to July 2026. His statement came in response to a Calling Attention Motion on the deteriorating law and order situation moved by Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLAs Aditya Devi Lal and Arjun Chautala. Saini said extortion cases are taken seriously and are shared with the Special Task Force.
