ICMR DG says flu vaccine only for those above 65, no masks needed

As swine flu cases surge in India, the Indian Council of Medical Research's Director General, Dr Rajiv Bahl, said on Tuesday that the flu vaccine is needed only for people above the age of 65 who are immunocompromised. He said there is no urgent need for everyone to take the vaccine, and that individuals above 65 and immunocompromised people may discuss it with their doctors. Bahl noted the vaccine is a World Health Organisation recommendation and is not part of the National Immunisation Programme. He said ICMR conducted a cost-effective analysis of the vaccine in India, and added that there is no need to wear masks.
