India and China to hold 25th round of boundary talks in Beijing
India's National Security Advisor and China's Foreign Minister are set to meet in Beijing for the 25th round of Special Representatives talks on the boundary question, with both sides focusing on institutionalising stability while acknowledging structural differences. The talks precede an expected visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to India for the BRICS Summit.
India and China will hold the 25th round of Special Representatives (SR) talks on the boundary question in Beijing on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a Politburo member, will lead the discussions.
According to Hu Shisheng, a Chinese strategic affairs scholar on South Asia, the focus of both countries would be on 'institutionalising stability' even though 'structural differences' in the relationship have not disappeared. The talks come ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's expected visit to India next month for the BRICS Summit, which would be his first visit to India in seven years.
The meeting is also intended to take stock of overall bilateral relations beyond the boundary issue, with attention on the upcoming BRICS Summit agenda.
