India, China agree on new border hotlines and meeting points ahead of Xi visit
India and China agreed to add new border military hotline channels and meeting points along the Line of Actual Control during their latest Special Representatives talks in Beijing, ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's expected visit to India next month.
India and China have agreed on new measures to strengthen communication along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), according to the outcome of the 25th round of Special Representatives talks held in Beijing on August 25. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval represented India, while Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi represented China.
The talks produced an eight-point outcome combining political engagement on the boundary question with practical steps to prevent incidents along the LAC from escalating. The two sides agreed to add two new channels for border military hotlines in the Eastern and Middle Sectors, expanding direct military communication. They also agreed to establish two additional meeting points.
The decisions come ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping's expected visit to India next month.
