India, Gulf Cooperation Council review trade deal talks
Indian ambassador to Saudi Arabia met the Gulf Cooperation Council's secretary general in Riyadh to discuss progress on a free trade agreement. Both sides also reviewed plans for a ministerial meeting next month.
India and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have discussed the next steps in their free trade agreement negotiations. The meeting took place on August 23, 2026, in Riyadh, where India's ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Vipul, spoke with GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi. According to the GCC Secretariat, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen India-GCC relations, exchanged views on regional and international developments, and reviewed preparations for a ministerial meeting scheduled for next month. The talks come as India and the GCC resumed negotiations in February for a comprehensive trade agreement aimed at boosting bilateral trade and investment. The negotiations were temporarily stalled in June, though the reason was not specified in the statement.
