India rejects UN racial discrimination committee's remarks as 'politically motivated'
India's Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday rejected observations by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, calling them politically motivated and highly malicious, and said the review was a routine treaty-body exercise in which India participated constructively.
India has formally rejected the observations made by the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination regarding the country, describing them as "politically motivated" and "highly malicious." In an official statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it had taken note of the remarks, which were released after India's 11th periodic review under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD), held in Geneva on August 11-12. The MEA clarified that the exercise was a routine treaty-body review, in which India participated in a spirit of constructive engagement. It stressed that India's commitment to combating racial discrimination remains firm and unwavering, and that throughout the review process India underscored its constitutional safeguards and legal framework on the issue.
