India's trade minister said the government is seeking to review and expand the 15-year-old Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with Japan. Speaking in Nagoya a day after meeting his Japanese counterpart, the minister said the two sides hoped to work toward further expanding the scope of the pact and providing new opportunities for the relationship to grow. India has been seeking a review of the agreement for several years, but Japan had been holding out. The pact is viewed as having failed to deliver gains to Indian goods and services exporters. Last month, the prime ministers of both countries said the two sides should discuss the pact and make it more contemporary, which was seen as a breakthrough.
