India sent a second consignment of relief material to Nepal on Thursday, carrying 37.5 tonnes of medicines, food packets and humanitarian assistance. The aid follows an initial 10-tonne dispatch on Wednesday, as Nepal deals with flash floods along its border with Tibet that have killed over 170 people.
India has sent a second tranche of relief supplies to Nepal, which is reeling from flash floods along its border with the Tibet region. A military transport aircraft carrying 37.5 tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) material, medicines and food packets took off on Thursday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said on social media.
The minister noted that this followed the dispatch of 10 tonnes of HADR material to Nepal on Wednesday. "India remains in close and continuous touch with the Nepalese authorities. We will continue to strongly support the ongoing relief efforts," Jaishankar said.
The floods have killed more than 170 people and caused extensive damage in Nepal. India has stepped up assistance in response to the crisis.
