Indian Navy to commission diving support vessel Nipun

The Indian Navy is set to commission 'Nipun', the second Diving Support Vessel (DSV) of the Nistar class, at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on August 31, 2026. The vessel was delivered to the Navy on July 30 after completing an extensive program of outfitting and trials.
Nipun was indigenously designed and built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam, marking another step in the Navy's efforts toward self-reliance in defense shipbuilding. The vessel is a purpose-built platform for a range of diving and underwater operations, equipped with modern diving systems and underwater intervention capabilities. It will provide sustained support to deep-sea diving, underwater intervention, and submarine rescue operations.
