Undergraduate applications from Indian students to US universities fell 15% for the 2025-2026 academic year compared with the previous year, according to a report by the non-profit organization Common App. The End-of-Season report, released on August 20, surveyed 1,146 schools and found that applications from Asia, the largest source of international applicants, declined 11% over the same period. Common App said the decline in international applications has intensified and represents the biggest drop in a decade. The report's release follows measures introduced this year by the US administration that include tightened immigration policy, changes to visa rules, and a four-year cap on students' stay after completing academic courses.
