India’s hydrogen train covers 6,000 km since launch
India’s first hydrogen-powered train, flagged off last month, has traveled around 6,000 km. The 10-coach train runs between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana and is described as the world’s most powerful hydrogen train.
India’s first hydrogen-powered train, flagged off last month by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has clocked around 6,000 kilometers of journey, according to Indian Railways. The 10-coach train can carry 2,600 passengers and operates between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana with a maximum operating speed of 75 kmph, although it is designed to reach 110 kmph.
Indian Railways says the train is the world’s most powerful hydrogen train. Hydrogen is considered the cleanest fuel available today, and trains powered by it operate quietly, produce zero emissions, and can reduce reliance on diesel. The train is credited with reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 36,444 kg so far.
India has now joined a small number of countries using hydrogen-powered trains. The launch marks a step toward cleaner rail transport in the country.
