ISRO successfully launched the Earth observation satellite EOS-05 on a GSLV-F17 rocket early Friday, its first successful mission of 2026. The satellite is India's first imaging satellite to monitor Earth from geosynchronous orbit.

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched its Earth observation satellite EOS-05 aboard a GSLV-F17 rocket from the second launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 2:55 am on Friday. The satellite was placed into a Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit at 3:14 am. The mission was ISRO's first successful launch of 2026 after setbacks during previous missions, according to the space agency.
EOS-05 is India's first imaging satellite designed to monitor Earth from geosynchronous orbit, about 36,000 km above the planet. The launch vehicle stood 51.7 metres tall and had a lift-off mass of 420.5 tonnes, ISRO said.
