The Ranchi chapter of the Haemophilia Society has asked Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to allow candidates with haemophilia, thalassemia, and sickle cell disease to register under the persons with disabilities (PwD) quota during NEET-UG counselling, citing the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016.
In a letter to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the Ranchi chapter of the Haemophilia Society said the NEET-UG counselling application does not offer an option for candidates with haemophilia, thalassemia, or sickle cell disease to register as persons with disabilities (PwD), even though these conditions are recognized as specified disabilities under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016.
Society secretary Santosh Kumar Jaiswal said the omission was depriving such candidates of admission opportunities in Jharkhand despite their securing good ranks in NEET. The society urged the state government to ensure that these candidates are allowed to participate in counselling under the PwD quota.
