J&K: 30 still missing a year after cloudburst floods; no compensation yet
A year after flash floods triggered by a cloudburst hit Chesoti village in Kishtwar district, 30 people remain missing and their families have not received compensation. The floods destroyed homes and infrastructure along the Machail Yatra route.
More than a year after a cloudburst triggered massive flash floods in Chesoti village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, 30 people are still missing and no compensation has been provided to their next of kin.
The flash floods, caused by the cloudburst on August 14 last year, led to widespread destruction, sweeping away homes, a community kitchen (langar), vehicles and other infrastructure along the Machail Yatra route.
The Army broke large boulders at the site through controlled explosions and cleared debris to search for bodies.
The government responded to a Right to Information (RTI) application filed by Jammu-based activist Raman Sharma.
