Karnataka's Water Resources Minister said the state will approach the Supreme Court against a directive to release 6,000 cusecs of Cauvery water daily to Tamil Nadu, after discussions with the Chief Minister.
Karnataka's Water Resources Minister N. Chaluvarayaswamy said on Wednesday that the state government is preparing to approach the Supreme Court to challenge a directive by the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) and the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) asking Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs of Cauvery water daily to Tamil Nadu. Speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, he said extensive discussions were held with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on the matter. "We will not defend the CWRC order under any circumstances. We released 100 TMC of water earlier, but this time we have given only 30 TMC. Even if the Tamil Nadu government continues to exert constant pressure," the minister said.
