Karnataka will hold a meeting this week to assess the H1N1 situation after the state's cases this year crossed 4,000, including over 2,000 in Bengaluru. Health officials cite surveillance and hygiene as key concerns.
The Karnataka government will convene a meeting with health officials this week to review the H1N1 situation, as the state's case tally for the year has crossed 4,000. According to health minister U T Khader, surveillance and preparedness will be discussed amid concern over the spread of seasonal flu in Bengaluru, which has reported more than 2,000 cases.
Statewide, Karnataka has recorded 4,125 H1N1 cases so far this year, compared to 4,583 cases for the entirety of 2025. The seasonal peak is expected to taper off only in September. Beyond Bengaluru, Udupi has reported 293 cases and Mysuru 184.
Concern intensified this week after a city school was shut down following H1N1 cases among its students. No mutant strain has been detected, according to health officials, who have stressed surveillance and hygiene measures.
