The Madhya Pradesh High Court has acquitted Prakash alias Munna, who was convicted by an Itarsi sessions court of abducting and murdering a 45-year-old man in 2021. A division bench of Justices Vivek Agarwal and A K Singh, in its August 20 order, criticised the Kesla police in Narmadapuram district for conducting a 'mechanical' investigation. The court noted the police neither produced CCTV footage from Betul bus stand and the dhaba where the prosecution alleged the accused and the deceased had eaten together, nor rebutted the accused's alibi that he was doing electrical work at a house in his village on the day of the incident. The bench observed that call detail records alone are insufficient to prove guilt without mobile tower-location data or other corroborative evidence. The deceased was identified as Jagan Geed.
