India will launch a year-long anti-narcotics enforcement drive from September, with 24 special drives each lasting a fortnight. The Narcotics Control Bureau has asked states and central agencies to focus on absconding offenders, pharmaceutical drug diversion, and prisons.
State and central anti-drug agencies are set to begin a year-long national enforcement drive in September to tackle drug trafficking. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has written to all states and central agencies, asking them to conduct 24 special drives, each lasting a fortnight, until August next year, officials told PTI on Sunday.
The action plan is aimed at dismantling drug trafficking syndicates. The drives will focus on apprehending absconding narcotics offenders, inspecting medical shops for diversion of pharmaceutical drugs, and checking prisons.
An awareness programme for school and college students has been running since August 16. The enforcement drives begin from September, with the first of the fortnightly campaigns.
