The National Commission for Safai Karmacharis will introduce a missed call facility for sanitation workers to register grievances, and is in talks to raise their minimum wages, its vice-chairperson said.
The National Commission for Safai Karmacharis (NCSK) will launch a missed call facility for safai karmacharis to register grievances, vice-chairperson Hardeep Singh Gill said on Friday. He said the facility will be introduced on the commission's foundation day on August 23.
Since taking charge in February, Gill said he has focused on ensuring prompt compensation for sewer deaths and has been engaging with the Labour Ministry to raise the minimum wages of safai karmacharis to a level on par with skilled or semi-skilled workers.
The commission is also looking into making it easier for safai karmacharis to report complaints, regularising workers engaged on a contract basis, and coordinating with various Union ministries to ensure directives are implemented.
