The government think tank NITI Aayog has released a report titled 'Reimagining Skilling for Viksit Bharat@2047,' examining the state of youth employment and vocational training in India. The report identifies 8.7 crore young Indians as NEET — not in education, employment, or training. It points to a mismatch between available skills and market demands, as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on job readiness. The report goes beyond counting the number of people trained and analyzes what prevents skilling from translating into actual work. The findings are intended to inform India's path toward becoming a developed nation by 2047, the centenary of Independence.
