NMC orders medical colleges to report student deaths, fill vacant posts
The National Medical Commission has directed medical colleges across India to submit monthly updates on student suicides and unnatural deaths, and to fill vacant faculty and administrative positions, following Supreme Court directions.
The National Medical Commission (NMC), the country's medical education regulator, has issued a public notice directing all medical colleges to maintain and submit “updated records” of student suicides or unnatural deaths at their institutions. The notice, dated August 23, also instructs colleges to take “necessary and time-bound steps” to fill vacant teaching, non-teaching, and key administrative posts. Both issues are to be treated as “most urgent” and given “top priority.”
According to the notice, colleges must submit an Action Taken Report (ATR), certified by the Head of the Institution, to the NMC at antiragging@nmc.org.in by the end of every month, using a specified reporting format. The NMC said the public notice was issued following directions from the Supreme Court.
