Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday approved a more than 120% salary increase for teachers in Adarsh Schools, raising their monthly pay from around Rs 10,000 to over Rs 22,000. The decision, announced during a meeting with a teachers’ delegation, will benefit around 1,100 teachers. Mann said successive governments had neglected the teachers despite their role in shaping Punjab’s future, and that the move corrects a long-standing injustice. He also said teachers would receive facilities on the pattern of Kendriya Vidyalayas, improving their service conditions.
