Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor Poonam Gupta said Thursday that India's GDP growth may exceed the RBI's projected 6.7% for the current fiscal year. Delivering a lecture on the Indian economy at the Madras School of Economics in Chennai, she said the economy remains resilient despite multiple challenges, including oil and tariff crises, heightened global uncertainty, and the possibility of a rainfall deficit. Gupta said high-frequency indicators and analysis suggest the numbers could turn out better than projected. She also said she expects 2027 to be a benign year for policymakers and referred to a 7.5% growth rate in the context of the country's growth trajectory.
