Search expanded for 22 missing crew after cargo ship sinks in Bay of Bengal
Indian Navy and Coast Guard have expanded their search for 22 missing crew members of a sunken Panama-flagged bulk carrier in the Bay of Bengal. Two Chinese nationals have been rescued so far.
The Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy have widened their search and rescue operation for 22 missing crew members of the sunken Panama-flagged bulk carrier MV Ocean Winner in the Bay of Bengal. An Indian Coast Guard spokesperson said on Monday, August 24, 2026, that despite days of search operations, neither debris nor any of the missing crew have been found, and hopes of finding survivors are diminishing with each passing hour. The vessel had sailed from Paradip, India, to China with iron ore on August 20. After a distress call was received on August 22, two Chinese nationals were rescued. The joint search operation is being conducted about 700 km east of Visakhapatnam.
