A study at a Raipur hospital found that cardiac emergencies among adults aged 40 and under increased 2.5-fold after the COVID-19 pandemic.

A clinical study at Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Medical Hospital, Chhattisgarh's largest government healthcare facility, found that young adults under 40 now account for a much larger share of cardiac emergencies than before the pandemic. The study, led by cardiology department head Dr. Smit Shrivastava along with Dr. Suresh Chandravanshi and Dr. Nikita Gusai, tracked 288 patients admitted with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) between March 2024 and February 2025.
According to the researchers, before the pandemic in 2018-19, patients aged 40 or younger made up just over 8% of total cardiac emergencies. After COVID-19, that figure has increased 2.5 times.
