Supreme Court directs committee to prioritise sexual assault complaints from protesters
The Supreme Court has asked a high-powered committee examining police action during the NEET paper leak protests to give priority to sexual assault complaints from women protesters at the 'Chalo Sansad' march on July 20.
The Supreme Court on Monday said it has asked the High-Powered Enquiry Committee (HPEC) to prioritise complaints of sexual assault faced by women protesters during the NEET paper leak agitation. The direction was issued by a bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana.
Senior advocate Shobha Gupta had urged the court to take suo motu cognisance of alleged sexual assault and molestation of women during the 'Chalo Sansad' march on July 20, and to create a mechanism for alleged victims to directly send complaints. The Chief Justice did not take suo motu cognisance but said the committee has been requested to examine the matter on a priority basis.
