A division bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Justices P S Narasimha and Alok Aradhe, disposed of a contempt petition filed by three NGOs working among survivors of the Bhopal gas disaster. The NGOs had alleged that the apex court's 2012 order on a public interest litigation seeking proper medical care for the victims has largely not been complied with.

The court directed the Madhya Pradesh High Court to designate a bench to hear the petition on proper medical care of gas victims at least once a month. The designated bench will hear all parties, permit the Union of India and the state government to file additional affidavits, and examine reports of the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee to assess how much of the mandate in the 2012 order has been implemented.
