India's Supreme Court on Thursday heard pleas against CBSE's policy requiring Class 9 students to study three languages from July 1, saying children should not be under pressure, and asked the government to find a solution to implementation concerns.

The Supreme Court on Thursday heard a batch of petitions challenging the Central Board of Secondary Education's policy mandating Class 9 students to study three languages, including two native Indian languages, from July 1. A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana said there was nothing wrong with the policy itself, but noted petitioners' concerns were about how it was being introduced. The bench emphasised that children should not be subjected to pressure and asked Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati to revisit the problems and find a solution, saying the policy would have to be introduced sooner or later but needed to be streamlined.
