Supreme Court judge urges transfer of Rajasthan HC acting chief justice, questions CJI's inaction
Supreme Court judge Justice Sandeep Mehta wrote three letters to the Chief Justice of India in August, alleging favouritism by Rajasthan High Court Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and questioning why his appeals for a transfer were ignored.
Supreme Court judge Justice Sandeep Mehta wrote three letters to Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant in August, urging the transfer of Rajasthan High Court Acting Chief Justice (ACJ) Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and questioning why his 'fervent appeals' had been 'ignored' despite what he described as 'clear evidence' of favouritism.
In his first letter, dated August 2, Justice Mehta wrote to the CJI about the 'grim and disturbing scenario' in his parent High Court in Rajasthan. He said the Acting Chief Justice, who is due to retire on September 26, had exhibited a total lack of leadership qualities and conduct unbecoming of a leader of the institution on more than one occasion.
Justice Mehta also reminded the CJI that he had been making fervent appeals for the appointment of a regular Chief Justice.
