Two Chinese crew members of the Panama-flagged bulk carrier MV Ocean Winner, which sank in the Bay of Bengal, arrived at Paradip in Odisha on Thursday, August 27, 2026. The Indian Coast Guard ship ICGS Varad transported the survivors, identified as Pan Tonglai and Chen Jianhe, to Paradip after they were rescued from a liferaft on August 22, 2026. The rescue followed a distress call received by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Sri Vijaya Puram. The two men received medical care onboard during transit and were handed over to authorized company representatives in the presence of officials from the Bureau of Immigration and local police, according to Indian Coast Guard spokesperson Commandant Amit Uniyal.
