The Kongu Vellalar Institute of Technology Trust, which runs six higher education institutions and a school at Perundurai, will develop a 40 lakh sq. ft. research park called 'Arivukoodam' on the campus of Kongu Engineering College, about 85 km from Coimbatore. The ₹100 crore project will be modelled on the research park at IIT Madras. It will house the existing Technology Incubation Centre at Kongu Engineering College, a tinkering lab, centres of excellence for various engineering streams, and industrial research centres. Trust president C. Devarajan announced the plan on August 26, and the foundation stone is scheduled to be laid by Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan on August 29.
