The Comptroller and Auditor General has reported financial and procedural lapses at the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) and Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI), with losses to the exchequer estimated at Rs 2.60 crore and Rs 3.20 crore respectively.

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has reported financial and procedural lapses at the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) in Thiruvarur and the Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI) in Dindigul. The report, tabled in the Lok Sabha, estimated losses to the exchequer at Rs 2.60 crore for CUTN and Rs 3.20 crore for GRI. At CUTN, the audit found that 44 procurement and work orders worth Rs 8.16 crore issued between 2017-18 and 2019-20 did not comply with mandatory financial procedures. The orders were issued without obtaining necessary approvals from the university's building committee and other departments. The university also failed to constitute purchase committees for purchases exceeding Rs 25,000.
