The CB-CID has told the Madras High Court that the seizure of Rs 3.98 crore from men linked to Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls warrants a full-fledged trial. It opposed a plea by accused BJP leader S R Sekar to quash the case, describing the recovery as part of a larger conspiracy.

The CB-CID has informed the Madras High Court that the material collected during its investigation into the seizure of Rs 3.98 crore from persons linked to Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran discloses incriminating circumstances requiring a full-fledged trial. The cash was seized during the 2024 Lok Sabha electioneering from a Tirunelveli-bound running train at Tambaram.
In a counter-affidavit filed before Justice V Lakshminarayanan, the CB-CID vehemently opposed a petition by one of the accused, S R Sekar, a BJP leader, seeking to quash the case. The agency stated that the seizure of cash, a copy of Nagenthran's identity card, and railway EQ forms issued by him are “not isolated recovery but culmination of a larger conspiracy.”
The CB-CID's counter-affidavit further said the carriers' failure to produce contemporaneous and lawful documents explaining the reason for keeping and transporting such a large amount of cash, along with concealment and covert movement, strengthens the prosecution case. The court has not yet delivered its ruling on the quash petition.
