Children hospitalised after suspected contaminated breakfast at Chennai school; accountability demanded

Several children from a government school in Poonamallee, Chennai, were admitted to a hospital after falling ill on Tuesday. The illness is suspected to have been caused by breakfast that was contaminated by a lizard, according to reports.
BJP State unit president Nainar Nagenthran criticised the state government over the incident, saying such an occurrence would not have happened if regular inspections of school food preparation were carried out. He called for the formation of committees to inspect food meant for school children.
Nagenthran also urged the government to take strict action against those responsible and to ensure measures are taken to prevent a recurrence. The children are currently receiving medical care.
