Class 12 girl attempts suicide in Tamil Nadu school after headmaster's scolding
A Class 12 student of a government higher secondary school in Mayiladuthurai attempted suicide on the school premises after the headmaster allegedly scolded her for not supporting his sexual harassment complaint against a teacher. She is hospitalised and stable.
In Mayiladuthurai, a Class 12 student of a government higher secondary school attempted suicide on the school premises on Tuesday. According to police sources, the headmaster, Indhirakumar, had earlier lodged a complaint with higher officials of the education department alleging that a teacher sexually harassed female students, claiming that five students had complained to him. The department conducted an inquiry last month with the five students and others. The girl reportedly attempted suicide after the headmaster scolded her for not backing the harassment claims. Teachers, alerted by other students, rushed her to the Mayiladuthurai Government Hospital. She is under treatment and her condition is stable.
