The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchy has proposed a free 150-bed shelter for patient attendants, following repeated requests for safe, affordable on-campus accommodation. The facility would cost about ₹3 crore and cater to families, especially those from distant areas.

The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Tiruchy has proposed building a 150-bed free shelter for patient attendants at an estimated cost of ₹3 crore. The proposal follows repeated requests from patients and their families for safe and affordable accommodation on the hospital campus.
The planned facility would have separate sections for 75 men and 75 women, along with washrooms, drinking water, and other basic amenities. It is expected to mainly benefit families travelling from distant and rural areas, particularly attendants of children and women who have delivered.
MGMGH sees around 30 deliveries a day, and some families need to stay at the hospital for several days depending on the patient's condition. The existing accommodation at the hospital is reportedly under pressure due to this demand.
