Government college near Lalgudi lacks hostel, outstation students face accommodation challenges

The Government Arts and Science College at Kumulur near Lalgudi in Tiruchy district has no dedicated hostel, despite enrolling a significant number of students from outside the district. The college has a total strength of 750 students, and 276 have been admitted through counselling so far this year. Of these, 100 are from outside Tiruchy district, compared to about 70 outstation students last year.

In the absence of a campus hostel, students are accommodated in hostels attached to government schools, while some have turned to private hostels. A senior professor said the college had been demanding a hostel for the past five years.
